Round Pen: The Great Equalizer

Written By admin On February 6th, 2010

Although many horsemen and trainers extol the virtues of the round pen, many horse owners still overlook how strong as a pen can be used to develop or maintain a relationship with a horse. It 'a shame because it is truly what I call the Great Equalizer in a horse human relationships. Perhaps it has some explanations …

I found many horse owners to discuss their physical strength, unlike those of their horses involved. They fear that simply can not be fixedestablish himself as the alpha, or leader of the report, because the horse is much stronger. Thus when their horse displays poor ground manners or commits an inappropriate are more likely to ignore them and hope that does not develop into worse behaviors. Well do what choices we have? The horse is too strong.

The reality is that apart from the youngest of foals, a horse is always more brutal than a possession of man. Any attempt to overpower a horsewith the pure power is doomed to failure. Techniques such as raising his voice or behavior against spam smacks of a horse is not based on force – they are psychological. The horse does not want the conflict to increase, as it is uncertain exactly what the options are, so it is set.

Of course there are exceptions, and tell the truth, these techniques are best used on already-trained horse, or in situations where you can not change his authority because of the lack of progressenvironmental law. The best way to inspire the respect and discipline in a bad horse is by incorporating the Great Equalizer: the round pen.

While many people will see a rod as a means to exercise (and if it is true that a good tool for exercise), the real power behind the round pen is its ability to establish a dominant position in a completely non – effective method. In rod, physical strength means very little. This is a fast and simple (unlike other methods) technique toTheir alpha status unknown.

Allow me an example that will better illustrate why a round pen will serve you better to share.

I once owned a dog young volunteer raised by his mother for the first time, so unfortunately the mare was not all that familiar with the need to discipline her colt. In fact, if Colt was actually a very nice horse, was Unruly and tend to do what he wanted from day one. A horse would experience such antics are not allowed and had her "indown the law "better from the first day of the foal, it would probably be a little 'is less disruptive.

Soon it was time to offer a halter and lead training for this rookie, and true to his form has been that the task was to try. Although more than willing to go with her, she felt that there was no reason to do so in an orderly manner. If you "accidentally" bumped into you, or so far away from your side, you had to follow the main line with an iron fist, so be it. O snapperTearing the main line was not very impressed by him.

Worse, as a colt develops into a mature stallion can often be very "strong." This was no different at first. How did the mother, she would hide small bites and PIN when you were trying to see, and although there was the intention behind them is, let's be honest – not bad!

Always a horse to propose to you (and a PIN must be considered a strike), it is important that you retaliate with conviction so they thinktwice before doing it again. But if I would give this colt a relatively easy fight, it would almost smirk to himself and tried to strangle me again! Was ill will? No! This colt grew up without discipline from his mother and without significant fear of humans – who scored from birth, and therefore has confidence in us. When he's not afraid of me, thought that was attractive in some Horseplay like any other colt would do.

A blow as it seems to us, is not always strong. In general notnot cause a horse much pain, but is intended as a technique of shock for a horse that already recognizes you as an alpha. Since this colt saw me as a playmate and equal, is not afraid of my clasping her hands – my choice is to increase both the physical strength (which is not usually my first choice) or find my position dominant in a kind way through the round pen.

When I discovered that the retention of verbal growls no effect on this colt is not, would not have had time to smother me or try mepatience with his rebellious ways we would march directly to the round pen or enclosed paddock. While this colt found the notion amusing for the first five minutes or so, eventually the round pen drain the oats, "" almost all the horses and he was no different.

In line with the work in pen, this colt soon learned that I was not a simple playmate – I was his predecessor. Although we still enjoy each others company, it was like to be on terms that were agreeable to the two of us (notmore black and blues!). Due to consistent round pen work, the leader, suffocation and general problems of lack of respect has become a thing of the past.

I hope my example of madness Colt second physical force to achieve your goals – "outgunning" A horse is not easy, practical or desirable. Never accept poor behavior and not feel his authority is measured only by his stamina, both of which are too often the mistakes made by owners of horses. Insteadconsider using a round pen (or in a pinch, you can use a line length) and how easy training and discipline can be when using the Great Equalizer.
